Gilbert Schulte, 89, of Dakota City, passed away November 17, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt with a parish rosary at 5:00 and parish scripture services at 6:00.
Mr. Schulte is survived by his daughter, Patty Schulte of Dakota City, and his sister, Maryann Blatchford of York, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; son, Kenneth; brothers, Herbert, Wendell, Jerome, Arthur, and Fred; and his sisters, Lorene and Caroline.
Gilbert Schulte, the son of Casper and Lucy (Pietz) Schultz, was born May 23, 1919 at Wynot, NE. He received his education in country schools in the Wynot area and following his education, worked in a Civil Conservation Corps camp during the depression. He was united in marriage to Margaret Kuchta on May 15, 1950 at Yankton, NE. The couple made their home on a farm near Yankton until moving to Dakota City in 1955. Gilbert was employed by various companies in the Humboldt area until his retirement from Concrete Products. Mrs. Schulte passed away in September of 1969 and Gilbert continued to maintain his home at Dakota City. In his retirement, Gilbert enjoyed working part-time for DeKalb, gardening and mowing lawns.
Gilbert was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Lions Club, and Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed fishing and squirrel hunting.
