Gordon Kenneth Strain 74, passed away Saturday, February 9th, 2019 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.
Gordon, was born May 13th, 1944 in Eagle Grove, Iowa to Kenneth Strain and Grace (Wood) Strain. They later moved to Fort Dodge where he graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1962. He was united in marriage to Alice Ann Innis on November 8, 1969 in Ft. Dodge. They lived in various communities before calling Thor home in 1980. Gordie, as everybody called him, had a passion for horses and music early on in life. He played the drums and began playing in bands in 1960. Later on he joined a band called The Nomads that were a great 50’s & 60’s band. He also played with Dale and the Devonaires in the late 90’s and into 2000. He was inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. He was the sound guy and also did bookings for Midwest Rock and Soul Revue at the time of his death. Gordie also was a paint salesman for many many years and was called “Gordie the Paint Guy” by many of his contractors and customers. He was employed with Bomgaars in Eagle Grove at the time of his death. He also enjoyed drag racing and fishing with his sons.
Gordie is survived by Becky Sindlinger of Burnside, Iowa, Thomas (Kris Anne) Strain of Thor, and Steven (Alyssa) Strain also of Thor, and Sister, Donna (Rocky) Rathke of Appleton , Wisconsin. Grandchildren, Nick, Cody, Keara, Gavin, Alesha, Felicity, Kandace, Stacia, Deklin, and Bella. He had one great grandson, Jax and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Alice.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
