Grace Marie Sime, son of Erik and Nellie (Severson) Thompson was born on September 17, 1917 in Rolfe, Iowa. She graduated from Rolfe High School at the age of 16. She then worked for her father in his General Store until her marriage to Russell “Bill” Sime in 1940 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rolfe. The couple resided in Ft. Dodge, Iowa until 1942 when they moved to Humboldt, Iowa. Grace and Bill were happily married for 58 years. Grace was a long-time member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, formerly First Lutheran in Humboldt where she was pianist, organist, and accompanist for many years. She held various church responsibilities over the years. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Hospital Auxiliary, serving on the board for two years. Grace was a member of the Silver Sisters for 27 years, both singing and accompanying. Music was always one of Grace’s favorite pastimes. She is rich in Norwegian heritage, enjoying many years of family holiday meals with lefse, lutefisk, and kringla.
Grace kept a supply of homemade chocolate chip cookies in her freezer, which were an attraction for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren!
Grace is survived by daughters Julie (Ron) Danielson of Andover, MN; and Joni (Rod) Heiden of Greeley, CO; daughter-in-law Rita Sime of Humboldt, IA; grandchildren: Randy (Chris) Danielson, Craig (Laura) Danielson, Barry (Heidi) Danielson, Scott (Nicole) Danielson, Vicky (Carl) Livingston, Brian Sime, Kristen Heiden, and Brad Heiden;
Great-grandchildren: Megan, Claire, Kailey, Lindsay, Emily, Ben, Leah, and Grace Danielson; Blake, Ethan, Clayton, Claire, and Paige Livingston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell “Bill” Sime, and son, Eric Sime. Family was paramount to Grace and she has left a legacy rich with faith and full of grace. Funeral Services will be March 6, 2010 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Humboldt, Iowa at 11:00 a.m.; visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is assisting the family.
