Grant L. Olson, 94, of Humboldt, formerly of Bode, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
He was born November 16, 1925 in Bode, the son of Tom and Dora (Baker) Olson. He grew up in Bode and graduated from Bode Consolidated High School in 1943. He was united in marriage to June Pohlman on December 23, 1950. Grant was born on the family farm just north of Bode and live on that same farm for nearly 90 years. He loved farming. It was his passion. He farmed with horses, Farmall tractors and later switched to his green John Deere equipment that he loved to operate. He milked cows, fed cattle, raised hogs and had chickens. Grant started farming with his Dad, continued to farm with brother Orville and later was glad to be able to farm with son Mark.
Grant enjoyed watching school and church activities and programs of his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed visits by his grandchildren, giving them tractor and combine rides. He enjoyed family vacations, bus trips and other travel. He and June visited all 50 states (he loved Hawaii), Canada, Norway, Denmark, England and Germany.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, June of Humboldt, his children, Robert (Cynthia Murray) Olson of St. Louis, Mark (Kay Heathman) Olson of Bode and Daryl Olson of Madison, Alabama, his nephew Phil (Gayle) Sharp of Olympia Washington, who was like a fourth son, his grandchildren, Brendon Olson, Elisabeth (Bhavesh) Majevadia, Jeffrey Olson, Daniel Olson, Matthew (Randa) Olson, Brian (Anna) Olson, Philip (Pheakaday) Sharp and Patrick (Stephanie) Sharp, great-grandchildren, Savannah, Scarlett, Sapphire & Sennoire Majevadia, Hudson & Landon Olson, Jackson & Bowen Olson, Cyanne & Onyx Sharp, Kaelynn & Madeline Sharp, his sister Nancy Riggan of Orange City, his brother-in-law Cal Dorenkamp of Mason City and many nieces and nephews.
Grant is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Eileen Larson, Eleanore Grefstad, Anna Jane Johnson, Orville Olson and Norma Dorenkamp.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26th with visitation one-hour prior at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode. Burial will be in St. Olaf Cemetery.
