Gretchen Clay, 97, of Humboldt, passed away on Thursday morning, February 14, 2019 at the Humboldt Care Center South.
She was born May 22, 1921 in Humboldt, the daughter of Chester and Nancy (Morris) Joenks. She was raised and educated in Humboldt, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1939. Gretchen was united in marriage to Paul D. Clay on July 8, 1945. The couple made their home in Humboldt and she worked for the Coca Cola Bottling Plant and had various other jobs in Humboldt. She was a member of the RNA, American Legion Auxiliary, Rutland Methodist Women and Faith United Methodist Church. She bowled on the Miller’s bowling team for years and was Treasurer of the Humboldt County Red Cross.
She is survived by her children, Christine (Timothy Cunningham of Longmont, Colorado and Paul (Cynthia) Clay of Humboldt, her grandchildren, Ryan Cunningham, Stephanie (Tracy) Fortune, Angela (Jeff) Christensen, John (Katie) Clay and Michael Clay, her great-grandchildren, Meghan, Trevor, Courtney, Caleb, Cody, Taylor, Ava, Heidi, Patrick & Stella and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul and her sister, Yvonne.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the 2:00 p.m. Funeral Service on Sunday, February 17th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Private family burial will be held Monday at Indian Mound Cemetery.
