Gwen M. Thilges, 55, of Dakota City, passed away October 30, 2012 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Gwendolyn Marie Meyer, the daughter of Leonard and Lillian (Keucker) Meyer, was born April 21, 1957 at Emmetsburg, Iowa. She was raised on a farm between Whittemore and Algona and graduated from Algona High School in 1975. Following her education, Gwen worked at the Chrome Café in Algona. She was united in marriage to Kevin Thilges on May 21, 1977 and the couple made their home in Dakota City. Gwen was employed in Gordy’s Café in Dakota City and worked for Casey’s for several years. She then joined Hy-Vee in Humboldt where she first worked in the bakery before going to work in the produce department.
Gwen enjoyed Facebook and reading. She also enjoyed trips to the casino and camping with her family. Gwen loved being at home and above all, she loved the time she spent with her daughters and grandchildren.
Gwen is survived by her husband, Kevin; three daughters, Melody (Eric) Himrod of Dakota City, Brook (Wade) Hart of Iowa Falls, and Courtney (Chris) Ubben of Humboldt; grandchildren, Hannah Himrod and Tate Hart; her twin sister, Carolyn (Ivan) Fredrickson of Livermore; her brothers, Jerry (Myrna) Meyer of Rapid City, SD, and Dale (Kathie) Meyer of Sedona, AZ; and her mother-in-law, Irene Thilges. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Wilma Meyer; nephew Alan Meyer; and her father-in-law, Charles Thilges.
