Harold C. Johnson, 87, formerly of Thor, passed away October 3, 2013 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 7, 2013 at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Patrilla; daughter, Nita Fedkenheuer (and friend, Bob Nelson) of Fort Dodge; sons, Ronald (Marlene) Johnson of Humboldt and Steven Johnson of Woodward Resource Center, Woodward, IA; 7 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sister Arlene (Paul) Sweeney of Urbandale; sister-in-law, Dorothy Johnson of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Hannah (Tokheim) Johnson; sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and Joe Orsland; brother, Richard Johnson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Leah Orsland; son-in-law, Gene Fedkenheuer; and grandsons, Charles and Robert Lee.
Harold Charles Johnson was born January 13, 1926 near Thor, Iowa to Carl and Hannah (Tokheim) Johnson. He attended country schools and graduated from Thor High School. On June 15, 1947, he was united in marriage to Patrilla Ridgely. To this union were born Nita, Ronald, and Steven. The couple farmed the Agnes Tokheim farm for 43 years, moving into Thor in 1994. Harold was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2000. In 2007 they moved to Springvale Independent Living and in 2009, Harold became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit.
Harold was a life long member of the Ullensvang Lutheran Church at Thor where he served as a trustee and funeral usher for many years and served as Norway Township Clerk for 13 years. He was an active advocate in all areas for the mentally handicapped. He loved farming and when he moved to Thor, he enjoyed mowing lawns and moving snow for others.
