Harriet M. Wyatt, 89, of Humboldt, passed away January 4, 2010 at Pullman, Washington. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2010 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Jan Burnett officiating. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is assisting the family.
Harriet Margaret Wyatt was born June 23, 1920 to Garfield and Mildred (Rockwood) Gouge. She attended school at Corwith, Iowa and graduated in 1937 at the age of 16. Harriet attended Iowa State Teachers College, receiving her two year elementary teaching degree. She taught for five years in the Vernon Consolidated, Bradgate, and Corwith school systems. She married Burl Wyatt on June 19, 1942 at San Louis Obispo, California. While he was in the service overseas for nearly three years, Harriet returned to Corwith and taught. After the war, the family lived in Ames while Burl attended Iowa State University and graduated in Veterinary Medicine in 1952. The family then located at Ruthven, Iowa where Burl practiced, with Harriet’s help, for over twenty years. He retired from practice and joined the USDA and they moved to Humboldt in 1969.
Harriet was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church at Corwith, Iowa and has been a lifelong member. She directed the choir and hand bells in Ruthven and Humboldt. She worked with Hospice, the Hospital Auxiliary, United Methodist Women, and was a member of Chautauqua Circle.
Harriet is survived by her children, David and Cathy Wyatt of Ruthven, Carolyn Wyatt and Tim Loughney, husband, of Pullman, WA, Dean and Sally Wyatt of Tyler, MN, Duane and Sheri Wyatt of Tyler, MN, and Richard Wyatt of Gold River, CA; eleven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burl; her parents; her sister, Marilyn Greene, her daughter-in-law, Jean Wyatt, her son-in-law, Jerry Newbrey; and a granddaughter, Sarah Wyatt.
