Hazel L. Ford, 90, of Ames, formerly of Humboldt, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the Northridge Care Center in Ames. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Church with Pastor Doug Wolter officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Hazel Louise Moore was born on April 21, 1925 in Menlo, Iowa to William and Lillie (Mains) Moore. Hazel grew up in the Guthrie County area and graduated from Panora High School in 1943. Hazel was united in marriage to John Ford and they made their home in Greenfield, Iowa. Hazel had two children. The couple later divorced, where upon Hazel and the children moved to Monteeth, Iowa and later moved to Humboldt.
She was a proud member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church (now Oak Hill Church). She filled many roles over the years in the church including, Sunday school Superintendent, adult Sunday school teacher, and was a leader in the children’s Jet Cadets Program. For many years she served as a police dispatcher for the Humboldt Police Department. She also worked as the custodian at the church and worked at John’s Town & Country Grocery Store.
She was proud of her family. She will be remembered for her humor and poems that she wrote for special occasions.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Jane (Larry) Ricketts of Ames; grandchildren, Dawn (Kyle) Whitaker of Ankeny, Daniel (Leslie) Rickletts of Kansas City, William “Buddy” (Susan) Ricker of Owatonna, MN, and “Kit” (Cory) Anderson of Fort Dodge; and 10 great grandchildren.
