Helen Maxine Larson, the daughter of Fred and Dollie (Kappelman) LeMar, was born on August 31, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa. As a child she moved with her family to Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1946. Following graduation she worked at Tobin Packing Company. On September 24, 1950, Helen was united in marriage to Lyle Larson. The couple farmed near Hardy, Iowa, until they retired to the Des Moines area in 1985. In 2014 she moved to Miami, Florida, where she resided until her death.
Helen embraced change in her life from her early work on a comptometer to the use of an iPad. She served for a time as Vice-Chair for the Humboldt County Democratic Central Committee. She remained active in church no matter where she lived. Her passion for animals led to many a devoted dog. Helen was talented with needle and thread. She loved to cook and try new recipes.
Helen passed away on October 21 at the age of 88. She is survived by her daughter Valerie (Alan) Wegermann of Mukilteo, Washington; son Brian of Miami; grandchildren Zachary (Kara) Wegermann of Durham, North Carolina, and Emma Wegermann of Miami; one brother; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband and parents preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa, on October 28 at 10:30 a.m. Later that day in Humboldt, Iowa, visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home. Interment at the Vernon Township Cemetery in rural Hardy will be at 11 a.m. on October 29. A memorial service in the synagogue at Hazel Cypen Tower in Miami is scheduled for November 4 at 11 a.m.
