Helen C. Stoddard, 93, of Humboldt, passed away March 31, 2016 at the Humboldt Care Center South. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt.
Helen C. Summers, the daughter of Alvah and Helen (Raschke) Summers, was born August 23, 1922 at Pocahontas, Iowa. As a young child, she moved with her family to Dakota City and attended school at Humboldt. She was united in marriage to Archie Stoddard on September 2, 1944 and the couple made their home in Dakota City. The family then made their homes in Weaver Township, and Humboldt until moving to Livermore in 1961. In 1967, they returned to Humboldt. Mr. Stoddard passed away in 1971 and Helen continued to maintain her home until becoming a resident of the Humboldt Care Center South 6 years ago.
Helen was employed by Sisson’s Care Center and the South Care Center. She was also very active babysitting for family and various families. She enjoyed sewing, reading, tending her vegetable garden, puzzles and crossword puzzles. Her grandchildren will always remember her as a good grandma.
Mrs. Stoddard is survived by her children, Roberta J. Morey of Humboldt, Paul Stoddard of Humboldt, Shirley (Ardell) Sturm, and Karen (Stephen) Foertsch of Humboldt; grandchildren, Susan Manson, Sonya Decker, Amy Lilly, Abby Brodale, and Adam Foertsch; 13 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Archie Stoddard; her son, Roger Stoddard; 3 grandchildren, Michael Stoddard, Joseph Stoddard, and Tina Hutchinson; brothers, Alvah and Gerald Summers; infant brother, Harold Summers; and sisters, Frances Chitonden, Flora Knowles, Lola Fortner, and Cecil Schipull.
