Herbert Charles Bormann, 84, of Humboldt passed away January 28, 2016 at Humboldt Care Center North. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday February 1 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Humboldt, Father James Tigges celebrating. Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery at St. Joe following lunch. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM at the church.
Herb was born November 8, 1931 In Riverdale Township, Kossuth County Iowa to Henry and Victoria (Kenkel) Bormann. He attended school and graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1949. He served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954 and was stationed at West Point, New York. On February 19, 1966 Herb married Marlene (Ernst) at St. Mary’s Church in Humboldt. They welcomed three daughters into their family, Kathy, Lori, and Julie. Herb worked as a carpenter. He leaned this skill in school from, among others, Father Theobald. He honed this skill during his Army years, and worked for Robinson, Christensen, and Sande Construction Companies. Herb also delivered grain trailers for Jet Company. Herb enjoyed belonging to his card playing group and his coffee crowd at Ampride.
Surviving Herb are his wife, Marlene of Humboldt, daughters Kathy (David) Hurst of Frankfort, IL, Lori (Robert) Parkins of Urbandale, and Julie (Adam) Shaikh of Urbandale; grandchildren Tannor, Spencer, Meagan, and Lauren. Also surviving are his brother Joel (Kathleen) Bormann of Schaumberg, IL, and sisters Mildred Bormann and Dorothy (James) Shomaker of Humboldt as well as brother-in-law Joe Lappe of Wesley. Preceding Herb in death were his parents, brothers Kenneth G. and Robert Bormann, and sisters Mary Lou Lappe and Eunice Streit.
