Howard J. Curry, 88, of Bode, passed away September 21, 2015 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery in Bode with full military rites. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in assisting the family.
Howard James Curry was born to George Payne and Esther Mariam (Bradbury) Curry on July 7, 1927. He graduated from Bradgate High School in 1945. He entered the United States Army in 1946 serving in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1947.
On June 30, 1952, Howard was united in marriage to Irene Mitsven at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode. He served his church as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. Howard farmed and later became a salesman for Kerber Milling. Howard served as the Mayer of Bode from 1974 – 1998 and was instrumental in establishing Bode Manor. He enjoyed attending dances with Irene and woodworking.
Howard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Irene; his daughter, Pam (Jeff) Jacobson of Parkersburg; and his son, Tom (Lisha) Curry of Ankeny. Also left to cherish his memory are his 7 grandchildren, Matt (Sara) Jacobson, Jodi (Judson) Marvel, Jon (Trisha) Jacobson, Andy (Kayla) Jacobson, Kit (Hania) Curry, Jill (Matt) Shafer, and Jaycie (Josh) Miller; and 14 great grandchildren; brothers, Jerry Lee Curry of Blythewood, S.C., and Richard Curry of Columbia, Mo.; and sisters, Marilyn Johnson of LeMars and Phyllis Brabec of Fremont, Neb.. He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant sister, Gladys; sister, Jeanette Mikolasko; brother, George Curry; and brother, Owen “Pete” Curry.
