Imogene was born in Des Moines, Iowa on July 22, 1929. She was raised at Plover and graduated from Plover High School with the class of 1948. In 1949, she was united in marriage to Lee F. Bendixon and the couple farmed together near Rolfe. Mr. Bendixen passed away in August of 1966, and in 1967, she married Arthur Hanson. Art died as a result of a farm accident in 1968. Imogene remained on the farm for a time before moving to West Lake Okoboji where she remained for many years. During that time, Imogene enjoyed the company of her longtime companion, Frank Mayer for over 30 years until his death. In 2000, she moved to Humboldt where she continued to maintain her home until becoming a resident of the Humboldt Care Center South. She passed away there on the early morning of July 23, 2017 at the age of 88.
Imogene enjoyed crocheting and quilting, singing and playing the organ in the Rolfe Presbyterian Church, photography, flowers and gardening, and fishing on West Okoboji. She especially enjoyed traveling with Frank and above all, the time she spent with her family.
