Iona M. Benz

Iona May (Davis) Benz, 98, of Dakota City, completed her journey to her heavenly home Sunday, May 9, 2021 at South Care Center in Humboldt Iowa surrounded by her loving family.

Iona was born June 11, 1922 in rural Bradgate to Ray and Alma (VanAlstine) Davis. She attended school at North Airline school in Humboldt County.
On September 15, 1941 Iona married the love of her life Gordon Benz in Kansas City, Missouri. To this union seven children were born.
Iona raised hogs and chickens and farmed side by side with Gordon. She enjoyed the neighbor’s day care kids while they played outside, quilting, china painting, gardening and being outside. Iona was a member of United Methodist Church at Rutland.

She is survived by her children, Arlis (Alan) Kuchenreuther of Rolfe, Melvin (Linda) Benz of Humboldt, Phyllis Smith (Paul Bakken) of Moose Lake, Minnesota, Dale (Shawn) Benz of Humboldt Richard (Cristy) Benz of Clear Lake; 12 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren and brother Lawrence Davis of Gilmore City, Rollin Davis, Lloyd Davis, Doyle Davis, Eileen Lanning, Allen Davis.

Ione was preceded in death by her husband Gordon, daughter Sharon, infant son, grandchild Rex and great grandchild James and grandson Douglas.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the Service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 12th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. www.masonlindhart.com
