Iona L. Johnson, 92, of Humboldt, passed away August 26, 2010 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge. Graveside funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Visitation with the family will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her son, Robert (Denise) Johnson of Humboldt; granddaughter, Amber (Aaron) Benz of Humboldt; and great granddaughter Mersadie Benz. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alan; and sisters, Nora Carstens and Doris Wiegert.
Iona Lucille Dunnaway, the daughter of Roy and Katherine Dunnaway, was born December 19, 1917 at Milford, Iowa. As a child, she moved with her family to Gilmore City where she recieved her education. She was united in marriage to Alan Johnson and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge where she was employed by Sears and Roebuck, Inc. In 1950, the family moved to California and Iona was employed by J.C. Penny and Co. and the Los Angeles Times. Mr. Johnson passed away in 1963 and in 1968, she returned to Gilmore City. In 2007, she became a resident of the care center until going to live with her son and daughter-in-law.
Iona was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City. She enjoyed fishing, baking, and watching mysteries and soap operas on television. She also took an avid interest in American Indian History.
