James A. “Jim” Andersen, 85, of Humboldt, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024 with his family by his side at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.
Jim was born August 19, 1938 in Bradgate, Iowa to Jens and Fern (Olsen) Andersen. Shortly after being born, Jim and his family moved into town to Humboldt. In 1956, Jim graduated from Humboldt High School. Following graduation he pursued a career in the military where he would be deployed to Germany for two years. After deployment, he returned to Humboldt and met his future wife Janis “Jan” (Campbell). Jim married his life long partner, Jan on August 5, 1962. The two of them planted roots in Humboldt and welcomed a son (Todd) and daughter (Shana) into their lives. While providing for his family, Jim worked numerous jobs but none compared to his time spent with DeKalb. The innumerable memories made while at DeKalb spoke volumes for his love for his job and the people he worked with. Jim was also a proud volunteer on the Humboldt Fire Department for many years and cherished the lifelong friends he made.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and friend. If you knew Jim, you knew he loved to fish, spend time with his family, and most importantly enjoy a cold Busch Light with good company. While fishing trips to Canada held a special place in his heart, he enjoyed trapping and hunting alongside his family. Jim’s proudest accomplishments were his children and grandchildren who he worried about constantly, but loved unconditionally.
Jim is survived by his wife Janis Andersen of Humboldt, son, Todd (Melanie) Andersen of Humboldt, grandchildren Sully Andersen and Sadie Andersen of Humboldt and his brother, Andy (Peggy) Andersen of Greeley, Colorado. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Jens and Fern; daughter Shana; granddaughter Hope; and brothers Dennis (Diane), Joe (Patricia) and Ronnie, as well as numerous other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
