James Goodell, 87, of Humboldt, passed away December 5, 2015 at the Marian Home in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Alberta Ervin officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery followed by a time of fellowship and refreshments in Morehouse Hall of the church.
Mr. Goodell is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen; his seven children, Jane (Tim) Zabka of Leigh, NE, Julie (Terry) Austin of Ranger, TX, Jill (Bob) Owen of Watkinsville, GA, Joy (Justin) Kirchhoff of Dakota City, Jolyn Garner of Fountain Hills, AZ, James “Jay” Goodell of Des Moines, and Joel (Cindy) Goodell of Humboldt; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and his brother, Lloyd (Alice) Goodell of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Archie Goodell; sister, Carol Parsons; son-in-law, Dr. Keith Garner; and grandson, Matt Conlan.
James Goodell, the son of Clarence and Etta (Crumbaker) Goodell, was born May 9, 1928 on his families farm in Humboldt County. He was raised on the farm attended country schools and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1947. On March 12, 1950, Jim was united in marriage to Helen Sawyer. The couple made their home on a farm in Corinth Township where Jim managed his grain and Angus cattle operations. In 1990, the couple retired and moved to Dakota City.
Jim was a member of the Humboldt Cattleman’s Assoc. and the Pure Bred Angus Assoc. He kept a stable of horses and enjoyed riding and watching horse racing. He loved deer hunting and in his retirement, enjoyed helping Lloyd farm and took up golfing with Archie.
