Jan Piper Jaqua

May 10, 1936 — June 14, 2024

Ames, formerly of Humboldt

Jan Piper Jaqua was born in Ames, Iowa, May 10, 1936 to Wallace J. and Bernice (Perry) Piper. She was educated in the Ames school system and attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls. Jan taught first grade in Humboldt, where she met her husband, John F. Jaqua. They had four children, Kathryn Jaqua of Phoenix, Arizona, Sarah Kallsen of Ames, Susan (Timothy) Albers of Baldwin, Mississippi and John (Christine) Jaqua of Scottsdale, Arizona. She served as a substitute teacher while her family was growing up. She was an accomplished musician serving as an organist and pianist for various churches and other groups. Jan’s talents were appreciated at weekly services, weddings, funerals and special events. Her talents as a seamstress took her into master quilting where her design and detail were second to none. She produced quilts because of her love of the art, but also for her home and family who she gifted lovingly and generously. Jan was a member of PEO, the Honey Bee Quilt Guild, and Faith United Methodist Church.

Jan is survived by her children, sister Lynn Jenison of Ames, sister-in-law Mary Jo Jaqua of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, six grandchildren; Emily (Andrew) Singer, Ben (Monica) Albers, Sarah (Karl) Hahn and Andrew Albers, Joseph and Elizabeth Kallsen as well as four great-grandchildren; Anastasia, Elijah, Ambrose and Henry. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John and brothers Nick and Jim Piper.
