Janet Lee, the daughter of Henry and Ethel (Kunert) Lee, was born April 3, 1947 at Humboldt, Iowa. She was raised on a farm in Humboldt County and was very proud of being named Dairy Princess in 1963 by the Iowa Dairy Producers. Following her graduation from Humboldt High School in 1964, she attended college in Mason City and became a Licensed Practical Nurse practicing in Mason City, Waterloo and Fort Dodge. She married Mike Smith in January of 1971 and to this union 3 sons, Lee, Josh, and Adam, were born. The marriage was later dissolved. Janet later received her Registered Nursing and Respiratory Therapy degrees and practiced in Humboldt and Fort Dodge. Over the past several years, she has helped deliver many babies as an OB Nurse in Fort Dodge.
Janet is a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt. An avid quilter, she has made nearly 400 quilts, and enjoyed reading in her free time. Her family will always remember her love of cooking and baking, shopping, and just being happy at home. She loved her dogs and enjoyed the time she spent with friends. She often admitted that her true treasure in life was raising her children and being a grandmother.
