Janice E. Lanning, 92, of Humboldt, formerly of Gilmore City, passed away March 2, 2011 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Gilmore City with the Rev. Jan Burnett officiating. Interment will be in Marble Valley Cemetery, Gilmore City. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Janice Ellen Feaster, the daughter of Rueben Milton and Julia Opal (Bobbitt) Feaster, was born November 9, 1918 north of Rolfe in Palo Alto County, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the Rolfe and Mallard areas. She was united in marriage to Gordon Roger Lanning on October 15, 1938. The couple lived for a brief time near Mallard where they worked for area farmers before moving to Bradgate where they began farming. Janice was very active in the family farming operations and enjoyed being a “farmerette”. She also became an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed her work as a housewife and mother. In 1979, the couple retired from farming and moved to Gilmore City where Janice stayed busy helping with her grandchildren which was one of her great joys. Janice was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church where she was active in U.M.W. for many years. Following their retirement Janice and Gordon enjoyed traveling and the twelve winters they spent in Texas.
Her family, neighbors and friends will always remember Janice as a gentle, humble, caring person. Those left to mourn her passing are her husband, Gordon Lanning of Humboldt Homes; children, James R. (Mary Jean) Lanning of Rutland, William R. (Linda) Lanning of Rutland, Cheryl A. (Randy) Curry of Humboldt, and Lori L. (Mark) Hamand of Humboldt; grandchildren, Linda (Tom) Hanson, Joan (Steve) Reedy, Steven (Kaylene) Lanning, Heather (Rob) Pedrin, Brian Lanning, Michael, Josh, and Lindsey Curry, Nicholas and Noelle Hamand; great-grandchildren, Justin and Joel Hanson, Jason and Amanda Christensen, Avery and Abigail Lanning, Nolan Pedrin, Brendon, Brett, and Leah Lanning; and great grandson, Alexi Christensen. Her parents and one brother, LeRoy Feaster, preceded her in death.
