Due to her interest in 4-H and the fair she entered many items in the baking open class at the Humboldt County Fair in past years and for the last 17 years had entered in the Clay County Fair in Spencer, Iowa where she won many blue ribbons for her pies, breads, cookies and cakes. One year she entered a pie in all 17 categories and took the blue ribbon in each category! She also won 1st place in the Cinnamon Roll Contest at the Clay County Fair and her greatest accomplishment was to take 1st place out of 132 entries in the Cinnamon Roll Contest at the Iowa State Fair in 2010 with her caramel pecan cinnamon rolls and claimed the $3500 prize!
