Jean Simonsen, 94, of Humboldt, passed away November 30, 2009 in Omaha, NE. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Patricia Vik of Omaha; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; son, Peter Simonsen; brothers, Duane, Raymond, and Richard Wilcox; and sister, Faith Knudsen.
Jean Wilcox the daughter of Levi and Mildred (Oaks) Wilcox, was born August 17, 1915 on a farm near Humboldt. She received her education in country schools and attended Humboldt High School. She was united in marriage to Harry Simonson on June 2, 1934 at Humboldt. The couple farmed together near Rutland until their retirement in 1973. In their retirement, they made their home in Humboldt. Harry passed in 1980, and Jean continued to make her home in Humboldt until 2003 when she moved to Omaha to be closer to her daughter.
Jean was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Airline Ladies Club know as AIC. She was known as a good cook and baker, and enjoyed counted cross stitch and writing books of poetry.
