Jeanette Larson

d. March 13, 2014

Jeanette Larson, 93, of Humboldt, passed away March 13, 2014 at her home.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt.  Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge.  Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Jeanette M. Chantland was born on June 16, 1920 in Battle Lake, MN to Carl and Cora (Myhre) Chantland.  She was the third of eleven children.  The Chantland Family moved to Badger, IA in 1929.  In 1942, Jeanette set out for the East Coast and worked for General Electric in Bridgeport, CT as part of the “Rosie the Riveter” movement of World War II.

Upon her return to Iowa, she was united in marriage to Gordon Frette on July 14, 1944.  Two Children, Mary and Roy, were born to the couple.   Gordon passed away on December 5, 1962.  On November 24, 1967, Jeanette married Robert “Bob” Larson.  Together, they tended his family’s century Farm near Humboldt until Bob’s passing in 2006, when Jeanette moved into town.

Jeanette was a woman who truly understood what it meant to live.  Her whole life through, she was devoted to her family and treasured her friendships.  She was engaged in her community through her membership in American Legion Auxiliary, We Weavers, and Humboldt Genealogy.  A devout member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Humboldt, Jeanette let her strong faith serve as a guiding force in the way she lived.  Never missing a chance for adventure, Jeanette rode her first roller coaster at age 80, braved a high-speed water slide at age 91, and undertook several home remodeling projects at age 92.  Jeanette will be remembered for her generous nature, gift for story-telling, vivacious sense of humor, and her steadfast, can-do attitude.

Jeanette Chantland Larson is survived by her daughter, Mary Mattoon (Myrvin Samuelson) of Humboldt; her son, Roy Frette of Ft. Collins, CO; 2 grandsons, Matt (Maren) McGowan of Goldendale, WA and Dean (Gretchen) Mattoon of Dubuque; five great-grandchildren, Devin and Andrew Mattoon, Zaebian Weis, and Arlo and Elsa McGowan; and her four brothers, Kermit (Sharon) Chantland, Lawrence (Loa) Chantland, Mervin Chantland, and John Chantland; and a sister-in-law, Janice Chantland.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Gordon Frette and Robert Larson; brothers, Clifford, William, and Douglas; and four sisters, Kaye, Florence, Gladys, and Doris.
