Jerry L. George

Jerry L. George, 88, of Humboldt, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, March 10, 2023 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.

He was born December 17, 1934, on the farm near Humboldt, the son of Allan and Cleora (Wells) George.  He was raised and educated in Humboldt attending Humboldt High School.  Jerry was united in marriage to Jo Ann Simpson on February 1, 1952 in Blue Earth, Minnesota.  The couple made their home in Humboldt and he was very active in the community, serving as a member of the Humboldt Fire Department.  Jerry and Jo Ann owned and operated several businesses in Humboldt including; Jerry’s Conoco, The Fireside and later The Bootery.  In retirement he drove a school bus for thirty years with the Humboldt Community School District.  He enjoyed refinishing furniture and had many outside interests that mainly included community service.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Jo Ann, his children; Michael (Rhonda) George and Michelle (Bob) Nielsen both of Humboldt, Marla (Steven) Koch of Ankeny and his son-in-law Dan Renken of Humboldt, his grandchildren; Matthew (Katie) George, Ashley (Curt) Westre, Nathan (Sarah) George, Nicole (Ryan) Watnem, Mindy (Jeff) Johannsen, Jason (Holly) Nielsen, Sara Koch, Tyler (Alicia) Koch and Wendy (Thomas) Wimmer, twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.  He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Joan Renken, brother Junior George and sisters Dorothy Phillips and Darice Gates.
