Jerry R. Mccurry

d. December 11, 2011

Jerry Robert McCurry, 81, a long-time resident of Humboldt, passed away on December 11, 2011, at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Humboldt, with Father James Tigges officiating. Internment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p. m. at Mason Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. A parish rosary will be at 5:00 p.m. and parish scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Jerry was born on February 25, 1930, in Goldfield, the second youngest of Roy Herbert and Helen Mae (Packard) McCurry's five children. Jerry was raised on a farm near Renwick, where he balanced a childhood of pranks and harmless mischief with the daily chores of a young farmboy that laid the foundation for the work ethic for which he is remembered. He graduated from Renwick High School in 1947, and shortly thereafter began working as a lineman for Cornbelt Power Cooperative.
On January 24, 1951, Jerry married Lorraine Margaret Green at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Corwith. Later that year, he was drafted into the Army, where he was stationed in Mannheim, Germany, and attained the rank of Corporal (E-4). When he returned from his service, he resumed his employment with Cornbelt, where he remained for 44 years until retiring as the Transmission Superintendent
in 1995.
Jerry was an active community member, serving on the Junior Chamber and the St. Mary's Catholic School Board, and acting as an usher and lay minister at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Jerry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who left behind a strong legacy instilled with his values and principles – those of honesty, loyalty, integrity, hard work, compassion, community, family and faith. Jerry is greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Lorraine, and their three children, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, eight grandchildren, and honorary daughter, Sheryl Shekey. Jerry's youngest daughter, Kimberly McCurry of Des Moines, Iowa, dedicated the past several years to frequent trips to Humboldt, watching over Jerry's declining health, providing companionship to Lorraine, and serving as a source of strength to the family. Jerry and Lorraine's eldest, Robert McCurry, resides in Beaumont, Texas, with his wife Teresa. Robert and Teresa have four children – Sarah, Katie, Allison and Matthew McCurry. Jerry's firstborn daughter, Cheryl Jefferson, resides in Marshalltown, Iowa, with her husband Douglas. Cheryl and Douglas also have four children – Emily Hippen, and Laura, Ryan and Lisa Jefferson.
Although Jerry's family and friends wish that he were still here with them, they are at peace knowing that he was greeted at the gates of Heaven by the loving arms of his parents, his brother Stan, and his three sisters, Vera Packard, Jean Erdman and Pat Smith O'Brien.
