Jerry David Sande, 66, of Boone, IA passed away August 15, 2018, at his home. A memorial service at Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday, August 22 at 1:00 with a visitation beforehand beginning at 12:00.
Jerry, the son of Gunvald and Edna (Johnson) Sande, was born on April 14, 1952, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He grew up in Humboldt, IA and graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1970. He attended Arizona State University and then transferred to Iowa State University, graduating with a double major in Construction Engineering and Music. While at Iowa State, Jerry was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. During his college years, he met Kyle Ellen Ringwald at a music camp in Colorado. They were united in marriage in 1976. The couple made their home in St. Louis, MO before residing in Humboldt, IA for several years until the union ended. In recent years, Jerry moved to Boone, IA and resided with his partner, Leo Kriz.
While in Humboldt, Jerry joined his father and brother and eventually his nephew, Steve, working at Sande Construction. Jerry enjoyed working on the steel building side of the business. Jerry continued his love of music and played his bassoon for the Fort Dodge Area Symphony for more than 40 years. He also gave private bassoon lessons. He had a love of life, adventure, and travel. Jerry was an avid gardener and immensely enjoyed sharing his crop. Jerry often entertained and served his famous barbequed ribs. He was fond of all animals, especially his cats.
Jerry is survived by his siblings Ron (Pam) Sande and Linda (Marc) Arends; nephew Steve (Karin) Sande; nieces Jenny Sande, Alecia (Chris) Johnson, and Abbey (Ryan) Harklau; great-nephews Ethan (Mariah) Sande, Elijah Sande, Jonah Sande, Mack Harklau, and Grant Johnson; great-nieces Isabelle Johnson, Ava Johnson, and Brett Harklau; great-great niece Inarah Sande; former spouse Kyle Sande; and partner Leo Kriz. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Gunny and Edna Sande.
