Jimmy L. Chorpening

August 3, 1952 — February 21, 2019

Jim Chorpening, 66, of Humboldt passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday morning, February 21, 2019 at the Humboldt Care Center South.

He was born on August 3rd, 1952 in Washington, Iowa to Les and Virginia Chorpening. He was raised in rural Washington County and graduated from Washington High School in 1970. He graduated from the University of Iowa School of Pharmacy in 1975. Jim was united in marriage to Sue Anderson on June 1st, 1974 in Washington, IA. They began their life together in Kalona, IA and then moved to Ottumwa, IA in 1975, where he was a Pharmacist. In 1981, Jim was offered the opportunity to be the Pharmacy Manager at Revco Drug in Humboldt, and the family moved in November of that year. Over the next 30 years he was the Pharmacy Manager for Revco Drug, Reliable Drug, and Hy-Vee Pharmacy.
He was a member of the Oak Hill Church since moving to Humboldt in 1981. He enjoyed playing on the church softball team for many years. He was also a long-time member of the Humboldt Hospice. He loved playing golf and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. He treasured being able to spend time on the golf course with his family, and cheer on the Hawks with Sue and his two sons.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Chorpening, of Humboldt, IA, his two sons, Matt Chorpening and his wife Erin of Las Vegas, NV, Brad Chorpening and his wife Kristy of Savage, MN, his grandchildren Jaxon Chorpening, Mitchel Chorpening, Paige Chorpening, Alex Chorpening, Gavin Chorpening, his sisters Linda (Lance) Stephens, Jenny (Bill) Anciaux and Carm (Mike) Hansen, his brother-in-law Ward Anderson and his wife Bev, as well as five nephews and four nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Les and Virginia Chorpening.

The Celebration of Life Service will be at Oak Hill Church in Humboldt on Saturday, March 2nd at 11:00 a.m.. A private family burial will be held at Union Cemetery before the service. Memorials in his name may be made to Oak Hill Church. www.masonlindhart.com
