Joyce “Jo” Simonsen, 91, of Humboldt, passed away January 14, 2016 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Gene Broughton officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Jo is survived by her son, Jeffery (Janet) Simonson of Missouri; her daughter, Cheryl (Bill) Blaine of Ankeny; 4 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Ramona Joiner and Marcia Terwilliger, both of Humboldt; and brother, Winton “Dewey” Hansen of Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Theodore; and her brother, Denison Hansen.
Joyce “Jo” Hansen, the daughter of Raymond and Elsie (Caryl) Hansen was born June 19, 1924. She received her education and graduated from Humboldt High School. Following her education, Jo worked for the Humboldt newspapers. She was united in marriage to Theodore Simonsen on December 28, 1943 at Brownwood, Texas. The couple made their home at Humboldt where Jo was busy as a mother and homemaker. She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Eastern Star, and served as a hospice volunteer for many years. She enjoyed dancing, golf, bowling, and card playing.
