Joan M. Jacobsen, formerly of Humboldt, passed away September 20, 2010 at The Colony Rehabilitation Center in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt.  Visitation is from 10 – 11 a.m. Monday at the church.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Humboldt.  The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.

Joan Marie Jacobsen, the daughter of Carl and Cecile B. (Potvin) Johnson, was born in Escananba, Michigan.  She was reared and educated in Escanaba, Michigan, and graduated from high school there. On September 1, 1956, she was united in marriage to Donald J. Jacobsen.  They lived in Escanaba and Ford River, Michigan where their sons, Joe, Chris, Jamie, and Dick were born, before moving to Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1965.  They moved to Humboldt, Iowa in 1966, and their youngest son, Matt, was born there.  Joan attended Iowa Central Community College to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.  Donald J. Jacobsen passed away in 1991, and Joan continued to live in Humboldt until her retirement in 2001 when she moved to live on Green Lake in Spicer, Minnesota.  She was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital for 25 years and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt, Iowa and Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer, Minnesota. Joan was a caring mother. She was the glue that provided a cohesive structure for her family, and worked tirelessly to raise her five sons.  A loving and grateful family will dearly miss her.
Joan died on September 20, 2010, after an extended illness, at The Colony Rehabilitation Center in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.  She is survived by her five sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Lianne Jacobsen of   Knoxville, Tennessee, Chris and Carol Jacobsen of Pine, Colorado, Jamie and Colleen Jacobsen of Pine, Colorado, Dick and Melissa Jacobsen of Alexandria, Virginia, and Matt and Wendy Jacobsen of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren: Marie, Collin, Emily, Anthony, Kelsey, Caitlin, Alexandra, Carson, Madison, Jake, Daniel, and Jack.  She is also survived by her brothers, Reverend Wm. F. Johnson and Steve Johnson; sisters Cindy Peterson, Debbie Curran, and Carla Marcoe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, brother Dick, sister Mary Anne, and her parents.
