John D. Vought, 88, of Humboldt, passed away March 30, 2018 at the Hubbard Care Center. Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday, April 4, 2018 in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Visitation is from 10-11 am Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial with full military rites by Adams American Legion Post 119 and Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post 5240 will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt.
John is survived by his daughters, Linda (Bob) Westberg of Humboldt, Darlene (Dan) Wolf of Radcliff; son, Ron (Dawn) Vought of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Amy (Josh) Peters, Becky (Trent Smidt) Westberg, and Makenna, Michael, and Danielle Wolf; great grandchildren, Kali Jo Dodrill, Maggie, Graham, Adley, Elsie, and Cooper Peters, Iven Clay, and Syrus, Ezekial, and Fenix Wolf; many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Larry (Ione), Marvin, and Leo (Linda) Grebner; and sister-in-law, Donna (Dale) Carman. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty; parents, Jesse and Dora Vought, grandson, Christopher Vought; brothers, Earl (Edna) Vought, Carl (Elizabeth) Vought, and Merlin (Naomi) Vought; sisters, Alice (Russell) Cameron, and Grace (Dean) Huffman; and sister-in-law, Donna Grebner.
John D. Vought, the son of Jesse and Dora (Breiner) Vought was born February 14, 1930 in Rusk County, Illinois. The family moved to Wisconsin for a time before settling in Humboldt, Iowa. In July of 1951, John enlisted into the United States Air Force. On August 16, 1953, while on leave, he was united in marriage to Betty Grebner at Gilmore City, Iowa. The couple made their home at Apache Junction, Arizona until John’s honorable discharge in July of 1955. They returned to Iowa and lived on an acreage near Dakota City before moving to their home near Thor in 1965. John built his reputation as a carpenter for many years until his retirement. Betty passed away in November of 2001 and John moved to Rainbow Drive in Humboldt until becoming a resident of the Hubbard Care Center in December of 2012.
