Joleen J. Johnson, 81, of Humboldt, passed away March 31, 2017 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Father Brian Danner, will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 4th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt with a Woman of the Spirit Rosary at 5 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Humboldt.
Joleen is survived by her children, Coletta (Jerrald) McCubbin of Boone, Carla (Mike) Stoner of Mankato, MN, and Dale (Nicola) Johnson of Burt; grandchildren, Hanna McCubbin, Max McCubbin, Trisha Stoner, Ben Stoner, Aaron Johnson, J.C. Culbertson, Josh Culbertson, Justin Culbertson, and Jennifer Skow; great grandchildren, Noah Skow, Katelyn Skow, Colin Skow, Hailey Johnson, Natasha Johnson, Emmalee Johnson, Betty Stoner, Josie Stoner, and Hazel McCubbin; and her sister, Marcia (Richard) Huber of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldon; sister-in-law, Charlene Hauswirth; brother-in-law, George Johnson; and nephew, Jeff Huber.
Joleen Josephine Joyce, the daughter of Edward Sherlock and Veronica Elizabeth (Meyers) Joyce, was born December 12, 1935 at Ayrshire, Iowa. She was raised on a farm near Ayrshire and graduated from Emmetsburg Catholic High School in 1954. Following her graduation, she attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Fort Dodge. On November 21, 1956, she was united in marriage to Eldon Johnson. The couple made their home briefly in Laurens before moving to Humboldt. In addition to raising her children, Joleen operated a daycare from her home for many years. She also worked for Head Start in Humboldt for 15 years and worked as a resident staff member in many of the consumer homes for West Fork Services for 6 years until her retirement in 1998. Eldon passed away on October 28, 2002 and Joleen continued to maintain her home in Humboldt until her death.
Joleen was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was active in St. Mary’s Society. She served as secretary of the Humboldt County Democrats and served on the boards of Hospice of Humboldt County and West Fork Services.
