Joyce M. Rolland, 87, of Humboldt, formerly of Bode, passed away Friday January 30th at Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Monday Feb. 2 at St. Olaf Lutheran church in Bode with Don Bell officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in the St. Olaf Cemetery, Bode.
Joyce M. Olson was born on March 2, 1927 to Sven and Mabel (Rude) Olson. She was raised in the Vernon area. On December 15th, 1947 she united in marriage to Garmon Rolland. The couple made their home on the farm near Bode. Joyce worked at the Twin Rivers School as head cook for several years, also worked at Dodgens. In 1985 Garmon retired and Joyce and he moved to Arizona where they worked as custodians at an elementary school and at a Baptist church. In March of 2010 Joyce and Garmon moved back to Iowa where they made their home at the North Care Center.
Joyce is survived by her sons: Michael of Geddes, SD and Larry of Peoria, AZ and daughter Sandy (Scott) Satern of Livermore, grandchildren, Eric (Amy) Rolland, Emily (Justin) Shapiro, Deanna Rolland, Joel (Carla) Rolland, step-grandchildren, Wade (Lisa) Satern, Luke Satern, Skye Kleen; great-grandchildren, Trevor, Ty, Kaitlyn and Abygail; step-great grandchildren, Olyvia, Maddie, Morgan and Toryn. Sisters, Madlyn (Richard) Olson and Maye Wahman, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Connie and Mary Rolland. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Garmon, her daughter Paula, her parents, brother Bud, sisters Lu, Precious, Viola, Ruth and Rachel.
Joyce was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode and Shepherd of the Desert Church in Sun City Arizona. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family will miss her very much. She was the most generous, kind, grateful person who smiled every day of her life. She also loved animals. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Care Center staff and Hospice. The family of Joyce requests memorials in lieu of flowers.
