Karen L. Schmidtke, 80, of Humboldt passed away on Thursday evening, December 6, 2018 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.
She was born October 28, 1938 in Livermore, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Frances (Smith) Bordwell. She was raised and educated in Livermore, graduating from Livermore High School where she played basketball and twirled in the band. She was united in marriage to Albert F. “Bud” Schmidtke on November 3, 1956. The couple made their home in Humboldt and even Ireland for two years when Al was on assignment. Karen enjoyed traveling, baking and cooking, but mostly spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Albert “Bud” Schmidtke of Humboldt, her daughters, Julie (John) Myhr of Chaska, Minnesota and Connie (Randy) Moench of Humboldt, her grandchildren, Amber Myhr, Annee (Seth) Fair, Emmie Moench, Melanie (Thomas) Riley and Matthew (Jessica) Moench, her great grandchildren, Kade, Jaxson, Lincoln, Parker, Addison, Ailey, Harper, Elizabeth & Carson and her sister, Lavina (Karsten) Kvitli of Imperial Beach, California. She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers, Jerry, Merlyn, Bobby, Richard, Thomas & Charles.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service on Monday, December 10th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorials in her name can be directed to LifeGate Fellowship in Humboldt or North Central Aftercare.
