Kenneth Vernon Ellgren was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on March 14, 1921 to Emil and Jennie Ellgren. He passed away on January 16, 2020 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny Iowa.
He was united in marriage to Lorraine Ostlund on June 7, 1952 in Minneapolis and moved to Humboldt, Iowa in the early sixties. Kenny and Lorraine were long time members of Oak Hill Baptist Church and were baptized on November 19, 1967. Kenny served in the Army during World War II in Europe. He worked construction with his father at an early age, drove trucks and had other jobs in his adult life eventually retiring in sales with Eddy Walker Equipment in Des Moines, Iowa. Kenny moved to Ankeny in 2007 and lived independently until moving into Sunny View Care Center in 2014. His daughter Cindy continued to pamper him as he was accustomed to with Lorraine. Kenny loved to fish and taught his sons Scott and Todd to fish when they were very young. They also spent many days road hunting for pheasants around the Humboldt area. Kenny served others including delivering Meals on Wheels after retirement. Kenny and Lorraine were avid dancers and looked forward to the annual Polka Fest in Humboldt. Along his 98-year journey with Jesus, he loved studying his collection of bibles.
Kenny was proceeded in death by his wife Lorraine, son Scott, his parents, sister Lillian, and brother Babe. He is survived by daughter Cindy Strahan (Reid), son Todd Ellgren (Amy), daughter-in-law Brenda Ellgren, seven grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Real Life Church, 2302 S.W. Third Street, Ankeny, Iowa. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Union Cemetery in Humboldt.
