Kenneth M. Koob

November 10, 1934 — July 1, 2016

Kenneth (Kenny) Milton Koob, 81, died peacefully at home in Humboldt, Iowa, on July 1, 2016. A celebration of Kenny’s life will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 1:00p.m. in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Kenny was born November 10, 1934, to Merrill and Esther Ruth (Sinn) Koob in Dakota City, Iowa. He attended country school at Grove No. 3 near Arnold then high school in Humboldt. On December 2, 1952, Kenny enlisted in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on December 1, 1955, at Fort Carson, Colorado. After living in Colorado and Kansas City, he returned home to Humboldt around 1968.
On January 2, 1971, he married Constance Jean (Connie) Wallace in Bradgate, Iowa. Kenny worked at Gunder Church Furniture from 1972 to his retirement in 1997. The couple lived in Bradgate until a tornado struck on May 21, 2004, causing them to relocate to Humboldt where Connie passed away on July 2, 2004.
Kenny enjoyed gardening (especially his prized tomatoes), fishing (his secret bait will remain a secret), playing with his grandchildren, restoring antique furniture, listening to vintage country music, and life in Humboldt, from coffee at Hy-Vee with former co-workers to the farmers market to thrill-of-the-hunt garage sales to shopping at Fareway.
He is survived by sons Eugene Koob (Kerry and son Kasen) of Omaha, Nebraska; Curtis Koob of Viborg, South Dakota; daughter Kristen Koob (Kaushik Mehta) of Boston, Massachusetts; two grandchildren; sisters Esther Johnson of Gilmore City, Iowa, Vivian Heidt of Humboldt, and Mildred Wagner and Maxine Sweeting, both of Iowa City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by six other siblings.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship will be established in Kenny and Connie Koob’s name to benefit Humboldt High School students.
