Kenneth L. Thompson, 86 of Humboldt, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Kenneth Thompson, the son of Andrew and Lillie (Hamlow) Thompson, was born February 14, 1935, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Humboldt, graduating from Humboldt High School with the “Class of 1954”. During his school years he worked building grain elevators for the Todd & Sargent Company. On November 25, 1956, Kenneth was united in marriage to Joyce Ropte at Zion Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on the farm where they raised their family and Ken farmed and worked for ASCS until retiring in 2000. In 1967, he also helped build the Farm Egg building where he continued to work for 13 years. Kenneth was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt, Farm Bureau and had served on the board at W & H Cooperative. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife Joyce Thompson of Humboldt; children: Jennifer (David) Strege of Winterset, Dean (Arlana) Thompson of Livermore, Craig Thompson of Thor, Neal (Caroline) Thompson of Hardy, Gary Thompson of Wesley and Jerry (Lori) Thompson of Yuma, Colorado; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis (Wally) Heslop of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Barb (Mike) Zabel of Humboldt. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; sister, Evonne; brothers, Dennis and Lyle Thompson; infant sister, Janice and a half-brother, Gene Ruby.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt with Pastor Aaron Flatau officiating. Services will be livestreamed on the Zion Lutheran Church Facebook page. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Humboldt.
