Larry J. Tilton, the son of Wilbur and Hazel (Happy) Tilton, was born May 16, 1946 at Fort Dodge, Iowa and his parents brought him home to the family farm near Livermore. Larry attended school in Livermore and Humboldt where he graduated in 1964. He then attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge. It was at about this time, Larry picked up his nickname “Moses” or “Moe”. Following his education, Larry assumed the family farming operations following the death of his father. Larry was united in marriage to Deb Johnson on September 11, 1976 at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor. For a time, he farmed with his brother, Kenny and later on his own. In recent years, he was proud to farm with his son, Jon and nephew Brett, and was glad to know the farm would continue in good hands.
Larry was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. He has been a long time member of the REC, Cornbelt, and Midland Power Boards of Directors. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He loved raising his family, especially the games of baseball, football, and basketball with his children in the yard and the times spent with his grandchildren. He enjoyed trips to the casino, early morning breakfast and visiting with his friends, trips to Vinny’s and Unkies, and traveling with Deb.
Larry is survived by his wife, Deb of Livermore; his mother, Hazel Tilton of Humboldt; children, Joanne (Rhett) Knoll of Dallas Center, Jen (Mike) Collins of Phoenix, AZ, Jon (Kelsey) Tilton of Humboldt, and Janet (Troy) Studer of LuVerne; grandchildren, Adrienne, Hudson, and Coen Knoll, and Eli and Evelyn Studer; sisters, Shirley Ewing of Freemont, NE, Sonnie “Sandy” (Bob) Tharp of Milo, and Judy (Bob) Zeidler of Davenport; and his brother, Ken (Lorraine) Tilton of Mona.
