LaVonne Lanus, 94, of Bradgate, passed away March 25, 2016 at the Villa Care Center in Fort Dodge. A Mass of Christian, celebrated by Father James Tigges, will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation with the family will be 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Roberta LaVonne Lanus, the daughter of Frank and Edna (Bradbury) Marchant, was born January 28, 1922 on the family farm near Bradgate. She was raised on the farm and received her education in Bradgate, graduating from Bradgate High School.
She was united in marriage to Leonard Lanus on July 14, 1940. The couple made their home in the Bradgate and Gilmore City areas where they farmed together for many years and raised their five children. In 1980, they moved to Bradgate where they lived until Leonard’s death in March of 2009. She then moved to Springvale before becoming a resident of the Villa Care Center in 2011. She passed away there on the evening of March 25, 2016 at the age of 94.
LaVonne was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She and Leonard enjoyed traveling and the 30 winters they spent down south. They also enjoyed their card club and getting together with friends. LaVonne took great pride in her large garden and enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading.
Mrs. Lanus is survived by her children, Robert (Donna) Lanus of Bradgate, Virginia (Roger) Van Alstine of Piedmont, SD, Shirley Lanus of Fort Dodge, and Wanda (David) Nelson of Woodward; 11 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and her sister, Jeanne Bond of Story City. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; son, James Lanus; grandson, Ronald Van Alstine; brothers, Frank, Bob, and Bill Marchant; and her sister, Betty Bradburn.
