LaVonne Skiye, 84, of Goldfield, passed away December 22, 2010 at the Marian Home in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Renwick with the Rev. Christina Perkins officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Skiye is survived by her sons, Hal Skiye of Renwick and Jay (Rita) Skiye of Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Art Skiye; an infant daughter; brother, Ralph Johnson; sister, Iola Houston; and nephew, Mark Houston.
Helen LaVonne Johnson, the daughter of James and Roxie (Underberg) Johnson, was born December 9, 1926 at Armstrong, Iowa. As a child she made her home with her family in various North Central Iowa communities and graduated from Humboldt High School. She received her teaching certificate and taught in the schools systems of Vernon Consolidated, Hardy, and Thor. On June 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to Arthur Skiye at the Little Brown Church at Nashua and the couple made their home at Hardy until 1982 when they moved to Goldfield. LaVonne managed the Oakridge Country Club at Goldfield for many years. In the early 1990’s, she began managing The Well at Goldfield and enjoyed her time spent working for its owner, Gary Reisinger.
LaVonne enjoyed playing cards, trips to the casino, and was known for her cooking.
