A Mass of Christian Burial for Leo A. Mitchell 79 of Humboldt will be held Monday June 20, 2011 at St, Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt the Rev. James Tigges celebrating. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2 PM to 5 PM Sunday June 19 with a Rosary at 4 and a parish scripture service at 4:30.
Leo A. Mitchell was born March 11, 1932 in Maple Hill, IA. His parents were Lawrence “Larney” Pierson and Mary Mino Pierson. He received education in the Estherville area and earned his GED while serving in the U. S. Navy from 1948 to 1951. He served in Korea during the Korean Conflict. On April 2, 1956 he married Shirley Sikora in Emmetsburg. The couple lived in several locations before settling in Humboldt in 1969. Leo worked as a salesman for Keebler and Little Debbie before a health event on Feb. 8 1978 forced him to retire.
Leo is survived by his wife of 55 years Shirley; daughter Cindy Mitchell of Dakota City; sons Jeff Mitchell of Forest City, IA, and Chad Mitchell of Hayfield, IA; grandchildren Jacob (Kelli Gilbert) Mitchell, Justin (Sonja) Mitchell, Chadwick Mitchell, and Tehya Mitchell; three brothers and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law Joe and Teresa Sikora, and son David in 1993.
Leo was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, Playing cards, petting dogs, traveling, and camping. He could drive long distances without tiring. Leo was famous for riding his three-wheeled bike around Humboldt.
