Lois Elizabeth Cran, 89, of Rutland, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. She had suffered with bone cancer the past month. In lieu of a memorial service, a Celebration of Life for Lois will be held at the Rutland City Hall on Friday November 28th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is assisting the family.
Lois Honeyfield, the daughter of Harry and Hilda (Kurtz) Honeyfield, was born January 3, 1925 at Raton, New Mexico where she was raised and educated. Lois was working as a file clerk when she met Andy Cran while he was stationed with the United States Army, guarding “The Hill” where they were developing the atomic bomb. The couple was united in marriage on January 17, 1944 at Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The couple returned to Rutland where they farmed together for over 40 years. A well-known couple about town, they were seen dancing, playing cards, fishing, and playing pool. Andy passed away in 1995 and Lois continued to maintain her home in Rutland where she has served as mayor pro-tem for the past 25 years.

At the age of 74, Lois learned to bowl and joined a bowling league. She enjoyed the game until she had to give it up in 2013.

Lois is survived by her daughters, Judie (Joe) Garcia of Rutland, Nancy (Doug) Heathman of Ames, and Donna Cran (Ric Croker) of Bode; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Andrew Cran; her parents; and her brother, Harry Honeyfield.
