Alice Lorraine Conlon, the daughter of Eric and Frankie (Bartholomew) Schultz, was born August 9, 1920 in Grove Township, Humboldt County. Lorraine attended country schools in Grove Township and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1938. She then attended business school in Des Moines and following her graduation, was employed by the railroads in Chicago. With the outbreak of World War II, she and Emmett postponed marriage while he served in the United States Navy and she went to work in the Pentagon for the defense department in Washington D.C. On June 2, 1945 the couple was united in marriage at Jacksonville, Florida. They made their home there briefly until Emmett’s honorable discharge when they returned to Humboldt County to farm near Hardy. With the exception of 8 years spent in Wisconsin, and Lorraine maintained their home in Humboldt where she remained busy caring for the family home and raising their seven children. Emmett passed away in April of 2005 and Lorraine continued to maintain her home in Humboldt until moving to Daniela’s Loving Care in Phoenix in October of last year.
Lorraine had many interests but her greatest love was for her family. She took great pride in caring for her home and enjoyed very much living in the community of Humboldt. An avid sports fan, Lorraine enjoyed attending the athletics’ and activities of her children and grandchildren and following the Cubs and the Cardinals. She was a lifetime member of the Humboldt County Historical Society and a member of the DAR where she served as treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the East Grove Sewing Club and the Humboldt Athletic Boosters. She enjoyed the color pink, flower gardening, and baking.
