Funeral services for Louise Abbas, 97, of Des Moines, formerly of Humboldt, will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009 in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Visitation is from 12-1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Louise Masterson, the daughter of Roy and Lillian Masterson, was born October 19, 1911 at Dallas Center, Iowa. She was raised and educated at LuVerne and graduated from LuVerne High School. Following her education, she was employed in a dress shop in Des Moines before moving to Humboldt. Louise was united in marriage to Reginald Bastian on July 6, 1936. The couple farmed together near Humboldt until Mr. Bastian’s death. Louise moved into Humboldt and on August 13, 1966, was united in marriage to Harold Abbas. The couple continued to maintain their home at Humboldt. In 2000, she and Harold moved to Des Moines to be closer to her grandchildren.
Louise was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. She enjoyed her memberships on bowling leagues and in 1993, won the over 75 gold medal at the Iowa Games. She enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves but most of all she loved her grandchildren.
Louise is survived by her husband, Harold of Des Moines; children, Rennie (Bob) Hellickson of Des Moines, Tim (Roberta) Bastian of Humboldt, and Frank Bastian of Des Moines; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Frances (Harold) Trettin, Margaret (Ed) Trettin, Betty Williams, Cora Mae Evans, and Dorothy Hibbard. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Betty Bastian; brother, Floyd Masterson; and sisters, Ann Godfrey and Roberta Trees.
