Margaret "Jill" Burr

October 22, 1946 — August 13, 2019

Jill Hansen Burr, 72, of Humboldt passed away on August 13, 2019 in Fort Dodge. She was born to Ron and Peg Hansen on October 22, 1946 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. When she was six months old, her family moved back to the Humboldt area, where she lived the rest of her life. Her first love was Jesus Christ, and she felt honored to sing of His story, His love and His great sacrifice bringing us salvation.

Jill had a special gift of music. She sang in church choirs, weddings, baptisms, and funerals. She sang in the Humboldt Community Chorus for twenty-five years. Children and animals played a huge part of Jill’s life. She worked with Special Education students in Fort Dodge and Humboldt, she also had a pet-sitting business for seventeen years.

Her daughter, Rachel, wrote this about her Mother; I have never seen another person with such affinity for children and animals. I am often struck by the fact my Mother seems to continually look at the world with wonder and amazement as though she were seeing it for the first time. I have always said she is truly a child at heart.

Growing up, the happiest memories I have about my Mom were playing games, singing and having parties. I don’t know how many hours we played games, but she was always ready to drop everything and play! I used to love it when she sang, “O Holy Night” on Christmas Eve service every year. Still, all the musical numbers we sang around the house were fun too!

Finally, there were parties. My mother was a people person and used any excuse for a party. When we did our bathroom, she wanted to have a “potty party”! She decorated beautiful and fun cakes. We had big parties on the 4th of July, Memorial Day and Labor Day.

My mother was a very warm, caring, funny, exuberant person. Her favorite Bible verse was Revelations 3:8: “I know you well, you are not strong, but you have tried to obey and have not denied my name. Therefore, I have opened a door to you that no one can shut.”

Jill is survived by her four children Rachel (Nicolas Coulet) Burr, Stephen Burr, Amy Burr, and Maria Burr-DeHaven; four grandchildren Chelsea, Austin, Zakeem, and Deserée; her beloved George Tew; sister Ronnie (Butch) Hewitt and many nieces and nephews. Jill was blessed with many friends whom she referred to as sisters, brothers, daughters, sons and families. Each of whom were very important to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
