Margaret Maurine Reasoner, the daughter of Harold and Maurine (Ennis) Reasoner, was born August 3, 1920 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was baptized in the Congregational Church in 1926 where she remained as a life long member. She received her education at Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt High School on May 27, 1937 where she served as vice president of her freshman class, was a member of the All High School Spelling Team all four years, and participated in music vocally and as a violinist. From 1937 – 1938, she attended Drake University in Des Moines and following her education, was employed in Lane’s Clothing Store in Humboldt. She was united in marriage to Ronald Nels Hansen on August 4, 1940 at the Congregational Church in Humboldt. The couple made their home in Des Moines until moving to Sacramento, California while Ron served in the United States Army during World War II. They then moved to Rice Lake, Wisconsin until 1948 when they moved to Dakota City. In 1951, the family moved to Humboldt where she and Ron established the Reasoner Casket Company where she remained active until the couple’s retirement. Mr. Hansen passed away in 1993 and Peg continued to maintain her home until her death.
Peg was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ where she was active in choir and circle. She also served as a past matron of Eastern Star. Peg was a great conversationalist with a profound interest in people from all walks of life. Always impeccably dressed, she was a writer, a reader, an artist, and a handwriting analyst. She loved her town of Humboldt, the river that flows through it and all her many friends and family, far and near. She was known widely as “Peg”, legally as “Margaret”, lovingly as “Rose” by her late husband, and fondly as “Gee” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald; and brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Flo Reasoner. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Ronnie Lue (Jerry) Hewitt of Des Moines, and Jill Burr of Humboldt; grandchildren, Jerry (Melanie) Hewitt of Des Moines, Brian (Cheri) Hewitt of Des Moines, Rachel Burr (Nicolas Coulet) of Dublin, CA, Laura Hewitt (John Zeka) Of Des Moines, Stephen Burr of Okemos, MI, Amy Burr of Las Vegas, NV, and Maria (Chris) DeHaven of Newark, NY; and great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Carly Hewitt, Brady Hewitt, Chelsea and Austin DeHaven, and Zakeem and Desaree’ Rencher.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Humboldt Public Library.
