Marian M. Benjamin, 84, of Gilmore City, passed away January 14, 2016 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City with the Rev. Tracy Nerem officiating. Burial will be in Marble Valley Cemetery, Gilmore City. Visitation is from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Mrs. Benjamin is survived by her husband, Roger Benjamin; her children, Dan Benjamin of Gilmore City, Sam (Sue) Benjamin of Ladora, Jenny (Paul) Abens of Gilmore City, Jane (Jeff) Nielsen of Arnolds Park, Marie (John) Thomas of Spencer, Emily Benjamin of Humboldt, and Amy (Dennis) Ford of Gilmore City; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren and her sister, Martha Cage of Kansas. She is also survived by her in-laws, Richard & Connie Benjamin, Stanley & Merna Benjamin, Gerald & DeLores Benjamin, Audrey Rutz, Arlene Jones, and Chantel Benjamin, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Fred & Beulah Benjamin, her siblings and spouses, Herman & Vivalore Claussen, Vernon & Ella Claussen, Clifford, Catherine and Maxine Claussen, Carol & Percy Grove, Iola & John Cran, Madora & Raymond Graaf, and brothers-in-law, Gene Cage, Darrel Jones, Darrel Benjamin, and Don Rutz.
Marian Mildred Claussen, the daughter of Henry and Mildred (Lotz) Claussen, was born May 28, 1931 at Gilmore City, Iowa. The family made their home on a farm south of Gilmore City until moving to town where she graduated from High School in 1950. Marian was united in marriage to Roger Benjamin on August 19, 1951. The couple made their homes in Clare, Minnesota, Bradgate, Gilmore City, and most recently, Humboldt. For the past seven years, Marian has been a resident of Long Term Care of the Humboldt Hospital.
Marian was a gifted organist and pianist and blessed several churches with her talent since the age of 13 as an accompanist. She spent many years babysitting for others while raising her children. In 1976, she went to work for Mick - Rusher Century 21 Real Estate and later was employed at Bank Iowa in Gilmore City. She enjoyed crocheting, counted cross-stitch, having coffee with her friends and watching the birds from her kitchen. She and Roger enjoyed dancing, gardening, going to auctions and collecting antiques.
