Marilyn O. Betz, 79, of Bode, passed away April 16, 2015 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 pm. Monday, April 20, 2015, at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery, Bode. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Sunday (today) at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Mrs. Betz is survived by her four sons, Daniel (Debbie) Betz of Humboldt, David (Deb) Betz of North Port, FL, Dean (Teresa) Betz of Phoenix, AZ, and Duane (Jennifer) Betz of Altoona; 10 grandchildren, Jenna, Nathan, Drew, Devin, Dailey, Darby, Olivia, Claudia, Grace, and Eric; three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Ava, and Kennedy; brother, Marty (Diane) Malmin of Watertown, MN; and sister, Carolyn (Ron) Nielsen of West Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest “Homer” Betz; and her brother, Edward Malmin.
Marilyn O. Malmin, the daughter of Erling and Esther (Knudson) Malmin, was born July 24, 1935 at Clare, Iowa. She received her education in Maple Lawn Country School and graduated from Bradgate High School in 1954. She attended Iowa State University and the American Institute of Business before going to work for the Des Moines Register and Tribune. On June 7, 1959, she was united in marriage to Ernest “Homer” Betz at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode. The couple began farming near Grimes, Iowa. In 1967, the family moved to the Ottosen area where they farmed until their retirement. In 1992, they made their home in Bode. Mr. Betz passed away in October of 2009 and Marilyn continued to maintain her home in Bode until becoming a resident of the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
Marilyn was a member of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church where she was active in circle and many church groups and she and Homer served as Luther League Leaders.
