Marjorie French, 101, of Goldfield, passed away July 10, 2011 at the Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield with the Rev. Sara Hill officiating. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. today at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Marjorie Lenning, the daughter of George and Clenora (Berg) Lenning, was born November 15, 1909 on the family farm in Humboldt County. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1928 and taught in rural schools around the area from 1930 to 1953. She served as the state treasurer for the Rural Teachers Association of the State of Iowa. She was united in marriage to John French in 1953 and the couple farmed north of Goldfield for many years. John passed away in 1971 and in 1974, Marjorie moved to Goldfield. In 2008 she became a resident of the Humboldt Care Center North. She passed away there on the afternoon of July 9, 2011 at the age of 101.
Marjorie was a member of the Historical Society, the American Legion Auxiliary, the United Presbyterian Church of Goldfield, and the Moring Circle. She is survived by her sister, Frances Mesicek and her brother, Glen Lenning both of Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; her sister Neva Mandsager; and her foster brother, Ronald VanDyke.
