Marjorie P. Jenson, 99, of Humboldt, formerly of Bode, passed away March 22, 2016 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode with the Rev. Jim Borlaug officiating. Burial will be in St. Olaf Cemetery, Bode. Visitation with the family will be 11:30 – 1:00 Saturday at the Church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Bode is in charge of arrangements.
Marjorie Pauline Oakland, the daughter of Peter John and Marie Severine (Teigland) Oakland, was born May 11, 1916 at Rake, Iowa. The nurse who was caring for her and her mother baptized her a few hours later. Pastor Okerland confirmed her in 1929 at the Liberty Lutheran Church in Rake. She received her education at Rake and graduated from Rake High School in 1935. Following her education, Marge served as the piano player for silent movies at the movie house in Rake.
She was united in marriage to Ernest Jenson on October 9, 1937 at Liberty Lutheran Church in Rake. For 15 years, Marge worked as a sales lady in women’s fashions and 4 years as cosmetics supervisor for Gates Department Store in Fort Dodge.
After the family moved to Denver, Colorado, she trained to co-manage apartment buildings which she enjoyed doing for 10 years. They were members of the American Lutheran Memorial Church in Denver where she was active in Lydia Circle and on the Flower Committee. In 1985, the couple moved to Bode where they were members of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and Marjorie continued her work with Lydia Circle.
Mr. Jenson passed away in November of 2012 and Marjorie made her home at Humboldt Homes until becoming a resident of the Humboldt Care Center North. She passed away there on the morning of March 22, 2016 at the age of 99.
Mrs. Jenson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Janet Jenson of Arvada, CO; 3 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Laona Jenson of Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Jenson; son, Keith Jenson in 2008; grandson, Steven Jenson in 2013; sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and Elmer Hedstrom; brothers, Marvin Oakland, and Adolph (Evelyn) Oakland; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arthur and Evelyn Jenson, Glenn and Lorraine Jenson, Oral and Lorna Stith; Hartwick and Dorothy Jenson, and Gordon Jenson.
Memorials may be made to St. Olaf Lutheran Church or Hospice.
